Sweet and Sour Meatballs
Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:
1 lb ground beef
1 cup dry bread crumbs
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 large egg
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Sweet and Sour Sauce:
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons cornstarch
Instructions
1. Prepare the meatball mixture
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper.
Mix gently until just combined.
Time: 5 minutes
2. Shape and cook the meatballs
Form the mixture into 1½-inch balls and place them on a tray.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and cook the meatballs in batches, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through.
Drain any excess grease if necessary.
Time: 12 minutes
3. Make the sauce
In a bowl, whisk together brown sugar, water, ketchup, vinegar, soy sauce, and cornstarch until smooth.
Time: 3 minutes
4. Simmer the sauce with meatballs
Pour the sauce into the skillet with the meatballs.
Reduce heat to low and simmer gently, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the meatballs evenly.
Time: 5 minutes
5. Serve
Serve warm over rice or noodles, or enjoy as an appetizer.
Optional: Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds.
