Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

🥩 Ingredients

For the steak patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

For the onion gravy:

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

🍳 Instructions

  1. Make the Patties:
    • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
    • Shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Cook the Patties:
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Brown patties for 4–5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Onion Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced onions until golden and soft.
    • Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1–2 minutes.
    • Slowly add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Combine and Simmer:
    • Return patties to the skillet. Spoon gravy over them.
    • Cover and simmer for 10–15 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Serve:
    • Plate with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
