Country Ham Biscuits

Here’s a Southern classic that never goes out of style: Country Ham Biscuits 🧈🥓. Salty, smoky ham tucked into warm, buttery biscuits—perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a snack that hits the spot.

🧄 Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour

4 tsp baking powder

¼ tsp baking soda

¾ tsp kosher salt

1 tsp sugar

2 tbsp cold butter

2 tbsp shortening

1 cup cold buttermilk

½ lb thinly sliced country ham

Optional: mustard, butter, or jam for serving

🔥 Instructions:
Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Make the biscuit dough: In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter and shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add buttermilk gradually, stirring until a sticky dough forms. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead briefly.

Shape and cut: Roll dough to ¾-inch thickness. Use a small biscuit cutter (2-inch works great) to cut out rounds.

Chill and bake: Place biscuits on the baking sheet with sides touching. Chill for 5 minutes if possible, then bake for 10–12 minutes until golden brown.

Assemble: Split biscuits using a fork (not a knife, to preserve fluffiness). Add a dollop of mustard or butter, layer in a couple slices of country ham, and close the sandwich.
