Portuguese Meatballs

🧆 Ingredients

  • 250g ground beef
  • 250g ground pork
  • 4 slices Portuguese chouriço (finely chopped)
  • 5 garlic cloves (3 for meatballs, 2 for sauce)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 50ml Port wine
  • Nutmeg, oregano, salt, pepper (to taste)
  • Breadcrumbs (for coating)
  • 50ml olive oil
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • Water (enough to cover meatballs)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Prep the meat: Mix ground beef and pork with chopped chouriço, garlic, egg yolk, Port wine, and seasonings. Let it marinate for 2 hours.
  2. Form meatballs: Shape into balls and coat with breadcrumbs.
  3. Cook the sauce: Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until golden.
  4. Simmer: Add meatballs and enough water to cover. Boil, then simmer covered until the sauce thickens.
  5. Serve: Best enjoyed with mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
