Pour 2–3 inches of vegetable oil into a heavy pot.

Heat to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the hush puppies

Drop batter by tablespoonfuls into hot oil.

Fry in batches for 3–5 minutes until golden brown, turning as needed.

Drain on paper towels.

Serve

Serve hot with tartar sauce, remoulade, or lemon wedges.
